Vernande joseph
Vernande Joseph is a trainer and community organizer. Her university training is in education and law. She has a rich background of experience as a school teacher, non-formal educator and community outreach specialist. She has worked on a range of projects providing assistance to small farmers in Haiti, including tree cropping and participatory watershed planning. In urban areas, she has worked with market ladies and street food vendors to promote clean energy. Ms. Joseph has also carried out field research on child labor and trafficking. During Haiti’s last national electoral cycle (2015-2017), she trained and supervised election observers for a consortium of human rights organizations which monitored Haitian elections. She has also served as gender specialist on projects funded by USAID, and conducted market research on Haitian agricultural commodities.
Ms. Joseph’s family roots are in rural Haiti where she has long volunteered her time to alleviate poverty and promote community action. This includes promotion of farm forestry and the marketing of tree crops, including export quality mangos. Ms. Joseph also created a grassroots community organization in Gros-Morne, Haiti, and founded an annual food and agricultural fair. Ms Joseph has also served as a volunteer interpreter-liaison for the Cuba-Haiti Medical Brigade, linking patients of modest means with medical services.
